The length of Central Park full loop is about 6.1 miles. Many cyclists will spent 45-60 minutes on it.
Central Park is an urban park in New York City located between the Upper West and Upper East Sides of Manhattan. It is the fifth-largest park in the city by area, covering 843 acres (341 ha). It is the most visited urban park in the United States with an estimated 38 million visitors annually, and is the most filmed location in the world.
Following proposals for a large park in Manhattan during the 1840s, it was approved in 1853 to cover 778 acres (315 ha). In 1857, landscape architects Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux won a design competition for the park with their “Greensward Plan”. Construction began the same year; existing structures, including a majority-Black settlement named Seneca Village, were seized through eminent domain and razed. The park’s first areas were opened to the public in late 1858. Additional land at the northern end of Central Park was purchased in 1859, and the park was completed in 1876. After a period of decline in the early 20th century, New York City parks commissioner Robert Moses started a program to clean up Central Park in the 1930s. The Central Park Conservancy, created in 1980 to combat further deterioration in the late 20th century, refurbished many parts of the park starting in the 1980s.
Main attractions include landscapes such as the Ramble and Lake, Hallett Nature Sanctuary, the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir, and Sheep Meadow; amusement attractions such as Wollman Rink, Central Park Carousel, and the Central Park Zoo; formal spaces such as the Central Park Mall and Bethesda Terrace; and the Delacorte Theater. The biologically diverse ecosystem has several hundred species of flora and fauna. Recreational activities include carriage-horse and bicycle tours, bicycling, sports facilities, and concerts and events such as Shakespeare in the Park. Central Park is traversed by a system of roads and walkways and is served by public transportation.
Its size and cultural position make it a model for the world’s urban parks. Its influence earned Central Park the designations of National Historic Landmark in 1963 and of New York City scenic landmark in 1974. Central Park is owned by the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation but has been managed by the Central Park Conservancy since 1998, under a contract with the municipal government in a publicโprivate partnership. The Conservancy, a non-profit organization, contributes 75% of Central Park’s million annual budget and is responsible for all basic care of the park.

In this buyers guide we talk you through everything you need to know when buying a new helmet. There’s many things to look out for and many different features for different types of riders and riding styles.
Helmets can come in road models, commuter models and also leisure models. Each of these will have their own set of specific features. For example road models can either be very aerodynamically efficient, very lightweight or a mix of the two. Commuter helmets can be more robust and may also feature built in lights for extra visibility. Leisure models can often be more affordable and suit riders who just want to enjoy the outdoors and not spend a fortune.
The good news is that any helmet sold will meet a certain minimum safety standard however, some helmets will have additional safety features such as MIPS also known as Multi-Directional Impact System. This allows the helmet to rotate slightly towards the impact easing some of the forces on your head.
If you have any questions about buying your first or next helmet, drop them down in the comments section below!

If you’re in the market for a fanny pack, ooops, we mean hip pack, to carry all your mountain biking essentials, give this video a watch.

In this episode of Scottyโs Scotland Showcase weโre in Scotlandโs MTB epicentre, the Tweed Valley where weโll be exploring Glentress and Innerleithen.
Glentress was one of the first ever MTB trail centres I ever visited. Itโs got something for everyone from the rider starting out on a balance bike right up to the seasoned pro. To showcase the variation on offer, we explored the range of Glentressโ offerings, machine made trails, trail centre trails and hand cut trails. Iโll admit it was fun just having a session in the Freeride park!
Next we headed to the Golfy, made famous by the EWS, all the trails here are entirely natural and hand built and maintained. Watching the scene develop here has been mind blowing, it started out with one trail and has grown to trails being everywhere in the forest. The passionate locals and trail association vigorously work to make it as good as it is. I rode 3 trails here, Avalance is steep, technical and loose. New York New York is fast and flowing before diving in the trees where it gets tight. 2nd Base has huge hand built berms that flow incredibly well. If you love natural trails then this is the place for you.
Traquair Forest is the home of Downhill in the Tweed Valley. I first came here in 2002 and some of the trails are still there. The Road Gap is a classic and we had a real fun session on this before dropping into the Gold Run! The Gold takes you through the tight plantation trees all the way down to the Arena where in my first race I crashed and DNF!
Riding here brought back a lot of memories and I canโt wait to see how the Tweed Valley continues to develop as a destination for MTBโers!
The entire series is being created carbon neutral. All our journey emissions will be offset and the advertising revenue generated from you watching this series will be split between planting more native trees in Scotland and the local trail associations.

Beginning at Glentress Peel, we make our way up to Spooky Wood, stopping at the Freeride Park, and then ride Super G, Hit-Squad Hill, Pie Run, Mushroom Pie, Magic Mushroom and Falla Brae. And did I mention that I managed to fall off, again.

Cyclists have evolved over the years to take two wheels to new and different landscapes. The humble bicycle has similarly mutated to adapt to whatever setting it finds itself in, to the point where two wheeled creatures are suited to all kinds of terrain, be it silky smooth road, loose gravel tracks, or steep mountainous descents, but just what happens when a rider and steed tackle territory they’ve not yet encountered? Let’s watch and find out.

Finally I got to ride at Greek Peak Bike Park in Cortland, New York. This video takes place on a beautiful fall day with some loose and dry riding conditions. This is my second time riding a downhill bike park after Mountain Creek in New Jersey last year. I did a bunch of runs, including Ares, Thanatos, Calypso, Pipe Cutter, Down & Dirty, and Freebird. The trail conditions were pretty sketchy, but I made due. I can’t wait to come back here and do more downhill mountain biking in the future! #dh #downhill #mtb # mountain biking #ionlyridepark
