If you’re in the market for a fanny pack, ooops, we mean hip pack, to carry all your mountain biking essentials, give this video a watch.
Be sure to visit our website for a detailed review on each pack and some written words.
In this episode of Scotty’s Scotland Showcase we’re in Scotland’s MTB epicentre, the Tweed Valley where we’ll be exploring Glentress and Innerleithen.
Glentress was one of the first ever MTB trail centres I ever visited. It’s got something for everyone from the rider starting out on a balance bike right up to the seasoned pro. To showcase the variation on offer, we explored the range of Glentress’ offerings, machine made trails, trail centre trails and hand cut trails. I’ll admit it was fun just having a session in the Freeride park!
Next we headed to the Golfy, made famous by the EWS, all the trails here are entirely natural and hand built and maintained. Watching the scene develop here has been mind blowing, it started out with one trail and has grown to trails being everywhere in the forest. The passionate locals and trail association vigorously work to make it as good as it is. I rode 3 trails here, Avalance is steep, technical and loose. New York New York is fast and flowing before diving in the trees where it gets tight. 2nd Base has huge hand built berms that flow incredibly well. If you love natural trails then this is the place for you.
Traquair Forest is the home of Downhill in the Tweed Valley. I first came here in 2002 and some of the trails are still there. The Road Gap is a classic and we had a real fun session on this before dropping into the Gold Run! The Gold takes you through the tight plantation trees all the way down to the Arena where in my first race I crashed and DNF!
Riding here brought back a lot of memories and I can’t wait to see how the Tweed Valley continues to develop as a destination for MTB’ers!
The entire series is being created carbon neutral. All our journey emissions will be offset and the advertising revenue generated from you watching this series will be split between planting more native trees in Scotland and the local trail associations.
Want to plant some trees for yourself: https://treesforlife.org.uk/groves/36…
All these rides are recorded on komoot so you can do them for yourself.

Beginning at Glentress Peel, we make our way up to Spooky Wood, stopping at the Freeride Park, and then ride Super G, Hit-Squad Hill, Pie Run, Mushroom Pie, Magic Mushroom and Falla Brae. And did I mention that I managed to fall off, again.

Cyclists have evolved over the years to take two wheels to new and different landscapes. The humble bicycle has similarly mutated to adapt to whatever setting it finds itself in, to the point where two wheeled creatures are suited to all kinds of terrain, be it silky smooth road, loose gravel tracks, or steep mountainous descents, but just what happens when a rider and steed tackle territory they’ve not yet encountered? Let’s watch and find out.

Finally I got to ride at Greek Peak Bike Park in Cortland, New York. This video takes place on a beautiful fall day with some loose and dry riding conditions. This is my second time riding a downhill bike park after Mountain Creek in New Jersey last year. I did a bunch of runs, including Ares, Thanatos, Calypso, Pipe Cutter, Down & Dirty, and Freebird. The trail conditions were pretty sketchy, but I made due. I can’t wait to come back here and do more downhill mountain biking in the future! #dh #downhill #mtb # mountain biking #ionlyridepark

This week we took a road trip from Southern California to Arizona, seeing the sites and getting in a sweet ride at Flagstaff’s local bike park. I love seeing that local bike parks are becoming more and more normalized throughout my travels. Such a good sign!
Cycling is a fantastic way to lose weight, and burn fat, but when it comes to weight-loss you should approach it with good nutritional practises and realistic goals. If you’re looking to shift a few pounds or simply approach optimal race weight, these tips will help you lose weight in a healthy and sustainable manner. Try to avoid fad diets and starving yourself of the required calories that exercise requires.

Summary:
1. Improves Mood: The runner’s high isn’t just for runners. Any form of exercise can help you feel great afterwards, including cycling. Activities that get your heart pounding will release energy-boosting hormones called dopamine. After a nice bike ride, that dopamine rush can help improve your mood and energy levels. If you typically feel an afternoon slump at work, going for a quick ride outside during your lunch break may be exactly what you need to stay energized and focused.
2. Weight loss without the extreme diets: Cycling is one of the best methods of exercise to trim fat and lose weight across your whole body. There’s a reason the pro bike riders are so damn lean. Just an hour of cycling can burn as many as 1,000 calories, depending on the intensity you’re riding at. Refueling has also never been more fun. With the number of calories lost on a ride, you’ll need a few post-ride, guilt-free indulgences to get your calories, and energy levels straight back up.
3. Improves Heart Health: By getting your heart rate up cycling strengthens your heart muscles. It also reduces your risk of developing several cardiovascular diseases, including stroke, high blood pressure, and heart attack.
4. Releases Anxiety And Stress: Another important mental health benefit of cycling is relief from anxiety and stress. Cycling helps you balance cortisol and adrenaline levels in the body. When the perfect balance between these two is attained, stress is reduced. This is perhaps one of the healthiest ways to deal with stress. This calming activity allows your brain to focus on breathing and peddling. These two become the prime focus and that in turn, shifts your focus from all sorts of negativity and anxiety.

These are the top 5 reasons why cycling is the BEST sport for weight loss and fitness gains. It is a great cardio sport that allows you to train under aerobic and anaerobic respiration at a low impact which decreases your risk of injury. Cycling is also a great sport for adventure and being part of a motivated community. If however you can’t find someone to ride with, no worries. Just grab your bike and helmet and explore new roads!
