The most obvious reason of loss of appetite in dogs is simple that he doesn’t feel well, the same way we react when we feel ill or are in pain.
Although a loss of appetite in dogs doesn’t necessarily indicate serious disease or he is sick, but prompt veterinary attention is important because it could be a sign of significant illness, including cancer, various systemic infections, pain, liver problems, and kidney failure.
